Together, we can keep Black art thriving.
We Ask You to Stand With Us
For 34 years, the Carr Center has been a trusted steward of Black artistic excellence in Detroit. It has been and is a place where creativity thrives, where culture is celebrated, and where the voices of the African Diaspora are heard loud and clear. Our 2025 Fall season demonstrated this commitment.
- With Detroit’s Urban Art Orchestra leading, we celebrated the living legacies of Bill Foster, Vincent Chandler, and Dwight Adams.
- We gave Lulu Fall a stage to celebrate the Music of Her Life: songs that marked her time on Broadway, the music that was important to her genesis as an artist, and the songs she has composed and given life to.
- Films @ The Carr featured magnificent work by many brilliant filmmakers of color…across the African Diaspora and beyond.
- On our walls, the Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club artists and art collectors told the story of Bridges: Because of Them We Are through more than fifty works of art: honoring the past; uplifting the present; and shaping the future.
- 75 young dancers learned from the masters, through Master Classes led by renowned dancer/choreographer Kris Nobles and former Dance Theatre of Harlem principal dancer/dance educator Keith Lamelle Thomas
These programs and many spectacular programs in the past represent a fulfilled promise to you and to our community, both in Detroit and beyond.
